On June 19, Sophie Poost, Jonathan Dollhopf, Angel Harbison, and Kings Floyd visited the office and spoke with Logan. He said he didn't really know about the bill, so we went over the basic information for him, said that three of us work with consumers in the area who are constantly seeing their rights threatened. He asked why ARC NY wasn't on the supporter list, we said that National was on and that there is probably a delay.

On April 23rd, I wrote the following email to Logan Hoover.

Hello Logan,

I am writing to enquire if Rep Reed has decided to cosponsor the Disability Integration Act (HR.555)?

As I am sure you know, community based services are more cost effective than institutional programs and have been proven to contain Medicaid costs. This bill also does not interfere with how states manage their Medicaid programs or negatively impact how organizations are funded. While the bill would ensure citizens have access to community based services, it does not force the closure of long term care facilities or restrict the opportunity to choose an institutional placement. There is no opposition to this bill. It is supported by the entire Disability Community including Paralyzed Veterans of America, the Arc, Association of Programs for Rural Independent Living, the Consortium of Citizens with Disabilities (CCD), the Lutheran Services in America Disability Network, and the National Council on Aging.

By supporting this bill, he will ensure no citizen who needs assistance is denied the Constitutional right to Life and Liberty. As a disabled D23 constituent, I appreciate how much Rep Reed believes in the value of family and the need to support the elderly and veterans with various community based programs to ensure independence. I require 24/7 care and with community supports I have been able to attend college and am active in my community. Given his stated positions, it would be inconceivable that he would not believe in supporting this bill.

On August 30th, 2018, C4CI sent an email to Logan Hoover (Logan.Hoover@mail.house.gov) asking why is not a cosponsor of DIA and whether the representative would commit to being an initial co-sponsor of DIA if elected to the next Congress.

On August 30th I received a call from Logan Hoover informing me that the congressman would not be signing on after consulting the local and State ARC as well as a local resource center. They had expressed concerns over how the bill would affect their funding.

The Advocacy Team at CDR met with district office staffer Taryn Windheim at CDR's legislative breakfast in Geneva on July 12th 2018. She indicated she thought DIA was something the Congressman would support. She received a DIA packet.

Gregg Beratan, Ericka Jones, and Kathryn Carroll met with Logan Hoover on July 25th, 2018. Seemed not apprised of issue, but asked questions. Gregg emphasized announcement of political opponent's intention to support DIA.

On April 13, 2016 ADAPT members - as part of the Spring Action Hill Day - provided the office with information about the Disability Integration Act which has already been introduced in the US Senate and asked that the Member of Congress become initial cosponsor this legislation in the House.
