Jonathan Dollhopf sent an email to Ben Thomas regarding to initial cosponsor.

Hi Ben,

We want to thank the Congressman for committing to be an initial cosponsor of the Disability Integration Act. However, it appears that Amy Bos at Congressman Sensenbrenner's office does not have Congressman Castro on the list for intial cosponsors. Can you please complete the paperwork by noon so that Congressman Engel will be listed as an initial cosponsor.

Our event celebrating the reintroduction of the bill will be in SVC 202 at 3pm with a reception to follow. We would love for your office to join us!

Thanks,

On August 14th Laura and her parents met with LD Ben Thomas prior to their Capitol tour as her parents are constituents of Castro. Ben remembered the email she sent in May with information and her personal story and need for HCBS. In addition to recapping info from the email Laura mentioned Centene endorsing DIA and gave Ben a copy of the TX Democratic Party resolution in support of DIA along with the Democratic info packet from the DIA website. She mentioned that 1 in 4 Americans have a disability and make up a large voting block especially when you include their family and disability support personnel in that voting block. She mentioned the top things the disability vote are concerned with are supporting DIA, opposing attacks on the ADA, and eliminating sub minimum wage. Ben mentioned Castro voted no on hr620, wanted more info on the TIME Act, and said that his office will contact Amy Bos to cosponsor DIA.

5/16: Laura emailed the LD (Ben Thomas) and COS (Danny Meza) for Rep. Castro stating she is the former Ms. Wheelchair TX 2014 from San Antonio in Castro's district.

Gave personal story of why DIA is needed and mentioned ADAPT members will be visiting his office today. Also gave links to CAP, Heritage, and DNC statement. Linked DIA Supporter List, AARP and NCD Studies on cost savings analysis of HCBS vs institutions.
