6/19/2019 Sent another follow up email to Rep. Cunningham's staff, Rashawn.

Hello Rashawn;

After a couple of our disability advocate friends from Atlantis ADAPT ran into Congressman Cunningham on the elevator today, they were surprised to hear that the Congressman still was not familiar with this piece of civil rights legislation, HR555, The Disability Integration Act.

We visited with you about the Bill in May, and then we sent the follow-up message below a short time after.

With 227 other co-sponsors, including 212 other House Democrats, it is hard to understand why Congressman Cunningham would continue to refuse to sign on to this landmark civil rights legislation.

As should be obvious, disability advocates are devoting a significant amount of time towards completing the unfinished work of the Americans with Disabilities Act through passage of the DIA. We expect our advocates will continue to follow up with Congressman Cunningham and hope he will have had time to have reviewed the Bill and will be ready to join in the overwhelming support for HR 555's advance of the civil rights of people with disabilities soon.

After the May 21st action in the Rep's office, the following email was sent by way of follow-up:

Dear Rashawn;

Thank you for the time spent discussing the Disability Integration Act, HR555, with our group on May 21st. It was re-assuring to hear that your family circumstance familiarizes you with the barriers to community living that has resulted in needless institutionalization of people with disabilities and the damage it does to the lives of people separate from their homes, families, and communities.

We hope Congressman Cunningham has had time to review the legislation and decide he would like to co-sponsor this landmark civil rights legislation for people with disabilities.

The promises of the Americans with Disabilities Act cannot be fulfilled for people trapped behind the walls of institutions. HR 555, the Disability Integration Act, will further ???tear down the shameful walls of exclusion??? by reinforcing the right for people with disabilities to live in the most integrated setting, and by building a framework for ensuring our communities offer meaningful access, services and supports.

We look forward to Congressman Cunningham's co-sponsorship of the Disability Integration Act and support for the civil rights of all people with disabilities. To be included in the list of co-sponsors for the bill, please contact Amy.Bos@mail.house.gov

Thank you.

On 5/14/19 Sophie Poost called the office and spoke with Mo, he said Rashawn was not available but he could take a message. Sophie explained that ADAPT has sent several emails and had not gotten a response and since they are in DC next week she wanted to know if ADAPT would be able to thank the representative for his support when ADAPT rolls through. Mo seemed a little confused by the message but agreed to pass it on. Sophie told Mo she would follow up with Rashawn with an email (below):

Good Afternoon Rashawn,

I just finished speaking on the phone with a staffer in your office named Mo in regards to the Disability Integration Act (DIA). In the past few weeks, you have received multiple emails from ADAPT about the Disability Integration act, bill number HR. 555, but we have not heard back from you and Congressman Cunningham has not signed onto the Disability Integration Act yet. It is essential that you review the emails that ADAPT has sent to you as ADAPT will be in town next week. We would prefer to stop by your office to thank Rep. Cunningham for his support of the DIA.

I expect you will get a similar message from Mo about the conversation he and I had, but I wanted to follow up with this email, so that you can confirm with me either by email or by phone (585-546-7510) that you received this message and our other emails requesting Congressman Cunningham cosponsor the Disability Integration Act.

Thank you for your time,

Sophie Poost
